Lavender Heart CHP9

She stood in front of her father’s study willing herself to go in Neji had left her when she made it to the front door of the main house. Her father was a cold person, fierce in his gaze, but he had a calm demeanor. She sighed she was going to have to get over this one way or another She pushed open the door, and stepped inside. Her father turned to face her.


“Listen Hinata-”

Naruto was waking back to his apartment being thoroughly lectured the entire way, by the both of them. No matter how hard he tried he couldn’t get through to them. Sakura was the worst though. She wouldn’t stop lecturing while Sasuke finished long ago, and only gave him occasional glares.


“What were you thinking-” she began.


“I didn’t do anything,” he whined praying that his apartment would suddenly come into view, and save him. No such luck.


“Did she agree to this-” she tried again.


“What do you take me for an animal?” He asked still willing his apartment to magically fall from the sky. Both of them glared at him this time. Apparently they did. He sighed, and his frown immediately turned into a smile as they rounded the last corner to his apartment. He took off for it with all his speed.


“Sorry Sakura there’s my apartment, gotta go,” he called over his shoulder. Sakura scowled in his direction and stomped off to her own apartment in search of Hinata. She was going to knock sense into one of them even if it kills them both.

“…and I have noticed your significant improvement since you decided to stay with your peer, and I would like to acknowledge that. I am beginning to see you as an heir, Hinata, and I am proud to say you have improved greatly over the years, and furthermore…”


Hinata droned him out, she wasn’t used to all this praise from her father, and it was making her nervous like he was softening her up for something. She hoped whatever it was it didn’t have anything to do with-


“… and have come to the realization that you have grown up” He told her. She quickly came back into focus as she sensed him nearing the end of his speech. “But I would like you to confirm one small detail for me.”  This is it. Here it comes. She steeled herself for the blow.


“You have been taking company with the Uzamaki boy have you not?” He inquired. She nodded slowly feeling that he wasn’t as she expected him. Still calm and serene, but not with that hidden malice that was always hidden just beneath the surface. Her father nodded, and dismissed her. She sat there dumbfounded staring at him wondering when he was going to start telling she was a failure. He peered at her quizzically.


“You may go now Hinata,” he told her slowly as if she wouldn’t understand. He gripped her by her elbow, helped her stand, and steered her toward and out of the door. She was still shocked as Neji magically appeared. She gave him a confused look.


“He didn’t call me a failure,” she stated walking slowly to the door. Neji brought her back to reality with a firm but gentle shake. She finally looked at him.


“He’s finally acknowledging your strength, it’s good that he sees that now,” Neji told her. She nodded now drawing her attention to her father’s acknowledgement of Naruto. Something wasn’t right. He didn’t yell at her for being seen with the demon as he had before. She was still trying to figure this out as she walking back to Sakura’s apartment and straight into the full frontal assault of Sakura’s one man army.


“Start explaining,” was the only thing that came out of Sakura’s mouth as she stood there arms crossed mouth set into a thin line. In other words angry. Great.


“Um… see we were gonna go to a restaurant, but he took me to a really beautiful pond, and we were looking at the stars when, um, we fell asleep,” she told her.


“So Naruto wasn’t lying when he said he didn’t do anything?” Sakura asked astonished. Hinata nodded mortified that she would think that and then embarrass Naruto with it. “Fine, but be careful your father isn’t going to approve of your relationship.” Her thoughts immediately flew to her father, and how he seemed unworried about her being “in company with the Uzamaki” as he put it. Something was really wrong… or right? She couldn’t tell this was going to take some figuring out.

“Do you not think her father’s going to find out? Maybe his Byakugan suddenly went on the fritz while his daughter was off gallivanting into the night with the village idiot. Oh and don’t forget about not coming out of the woods until dawn.” Naruto couldn’t believe it. He was getting a lecture from Sasuke the guy who wouldn’t say more than a syllable at a time. He also couldn’t figure out the big deal. He told him he didn’t do anything. Guess this was one of those things you couldn’t avoid so he settled in the comfort of his couch and waited out the rest of the lecture.


Sasuke soon let out all of his steam.  It wasn’t the fact that Naruto was in deep trouble, but the fact that Sasuke had to go and look for him, all day instead of sleeping and trying to find a way to accumulate money so he didn’t have to eat ramen anymore. ‘Cause that’s just bout the only thing that Naruto would buy besides clothes. He walked back to the room he currently occupied and shut the door on his current object of despise.  

Naruto having fallen asleep during the final stretch of Sasuke’s lecture woke up to the door shutting. He yawned looked at the clock and wondered what Hinata’s father was talking to her about. Wondered if what Sasuke said was true that her father really did know where they were. If he did, he’d know they didn’t do anything right? This was something to think about.

Sakura made her way to Naruto’s apartment in search of fiancé to see whether he’d want pink frosting or blue frosting on the cake, or maybe both. She barged in through his open door and gave Naruto a nod she passed him making for Sasuke’s room.


“Pink or blue?” she immediately asked walking in his room and taking a seat on his bed a he sat the desk writing something.


“Both,” he said without glancing up knowing it please them both. She nodded and drilled him through a number of questions as to what Naruto said.



“Hinata said nothing happened. I guess she’d have more class than that though,” she mused lying on his bed and talking to the ceiling. He nodded still writing. She thought about how different their relationship seemed to be. After Sasuke confessed his love and proposed to her, he seemed perfectly happy to go on with life as though nothing happened. She thought it was because he got whatever he had to off of his chest and out into the open, and that all that romantic nonsense was for Naruto. She was happy though just to have him.

Hiashi thought on his current situation. After hearing what Neji had to say, he was reconsidering his thoughts on the boy. This situation with the Uzamaki was going to be difficult to figure out. He was slightly open minded with Hinata’s new found strength, but he would have to think on this relationship, and how serious it already was. If the boy was worthy he might approve of this. If the boy was the one who encouraged his daughter to get stronger in the first place, he might consider putting him in slightly higher regard.
